The Digital Nomad Guide to Chiang Mai
Where to work, eat, live, and what it actually costs -backed by data from 7,288 places and 26,704 reviews.
Chiang Mai has been a digital nomad hub for over a decade -and for good reason. Fast wifi, cheap rent, incredible food, and a timezone that overlaps with Europe mornings and US evenings. But the city has changed. Old favorites close, new spots open, and most "best of" lists are 3 years out of date.
This guide is different. We analyzed 7,288 places using review data from 6 live sources, scored every cafe and coworking space on an intelligence engine that measures trust, value, vibe, and authenticity. These aren't opinions -they're patterns from 26,704 real reviews.
1. Best Coworking Spaces
Chiang Mai has 9 coworking spaces with ratings -here are the ones our intelligence engine ranks highest, based on review trust, value-for-money, and the "digital-nomad" vibe tag frequency.
The OG nomad space. Two locations -Nimman and Tha Phae Gate. Reviewers consistently praise the reliable wifi and comfortable chairs. Day passes around 200 THB, monthly from 3,000 THB. Phone booths for Zoom calls, free coffee station. Not the flashiest, but the community and price-to-quality ratio keeps nomads coming back. The Tha Phae branch has private offices with AC and "about 29 power outlets" per one reviewer.
Free coworking by AIS -buy a drink or use an AIS SIM. 5th floor of Maya Mall with power outlets everywhere and fast wifi. Gets crowded after 2pm, so come early. The most popular free workspace in the city -with 1,200 reviews it's by far the most-reviewed coworking space in Chiang Mai. Air conditioning that actually works, unlike many cafes.
Highest-rated coworking in our database at 4.9 stars from 235 reviews. A garden setting that's rare for a productive workspace -calm environment with enough greenery to feel like you're not in an office. Our intelligence engine tags it as both "digital-nomad" and "local favorite."
Combined coworking + coliving -live and work in one place. Reviewers highlight the organized Sunday hikes and lunch meetups as a great way to meet people. Walking distance to Nimman. The staff (Mickey & Ami) get mentioned by name repeatedly. One warning: avoid Standard A and B rooms if you're noise-sensitive -they face a busy avenue.
The cheapest coworking per hour in our database at 25 THB/hr. Proper office chairs, good internet, and the included coffee is better than many cafes. Small, quiet, surrounded by restaurants. Reviewers love that they don't have to think about hydration -tea and water just keep appearing.
Beautiful, modern space -bright design that feels like working in a studio, not a shared office. Day pass ~250 THB. Good AC, private booths available. Newer than Punspace with a more polished aesthetic. With 350 reviews at 4.7 stars, it's the most-reviewed dedicated coworking after Punspace and CAMP.
2. Best Cafes for Working
We tagged every cafe in our database for "digital-nomad" vibe based on review language patterns -mentions of wifi, laptops, power outlets, working, and staying for hours. Out of 787 cafes, these scored highest.
Reviewers call this the best specialty coffee in Chiang Mai, and that's saying something in a city with 787 cafes. Knowledgeable staff who'll walk you through beans and brewing methods. Can get loud in the afternoon -mornings are best for deep work. Multiple reviewers describe it as "a must" and one compared the experience to being "always inspired by how good coffee can get."
Family-run by a father-son duo in the nomad-heavy Santitham area. 40 THB for a latte that rivals places charging triple -reviewers are almost incredulous about the value. They use Milk Lab almond milk and the decaf gets special praise. Small plants in the sitting area, mosquito spray on every table. Became hugely popular, so expect 20-minute waits during peak hours. One reviewer wrote: "I visit Chiang Mai every year and it felt sad I only discovered this place now."
Started as a small cart, now has two brick-and-mortar locations. Hip-hop on vinyl straight from the wall behind the deck. The magic latte gets special praise. Warning: music is loud inside, so not ideal for calls -but perfect for focused solo work with headphones. The second location is open-air. Reddit's r/chiangmai community actively recommends it for the "laid-back vibe with heaps of character."
Multiple locations across Chiang Mai -this one in Nimman is the most popular. Reviewers call it "the most creative and innovative cafe in Thailand". Try the seasonal blends with local Chiang Mai beans (tropical fruit acidity, bergamot, yogurt tang). Reliable wifi, clean bathrooms. Design-focused space -"sitting here instantly puts you in a good headspace." Gets packed on weekends but weekday mornings are productive.
Most Chiang Mai cafes expect you to order something every 2-3 hours if you're working. A 60 THB americano every few hours is cheaper than coworking -and the food is usually better.
